Timothy Leonelli, MM’15 is a Boston-based composer, arranger, conductor, and educator and holds degrees in music composition from The Boston Conservatory (MM) and Berklee College of Music (BM). Leonelli is an advocate for new music in colleges, universities and public schools. His most recent commissions were from Stony Brook University, Boston College, North Andover High School (MA) and Burlington High School (MA). Leonelli’s research in the use of just intonation, the overtone series and tuning variables for wind instruments through composition and orchestration techniques has been presented at the College Band Directors National Association Athletic Band Symposium. Timothy’s output of orchestral and wind ensemble literature combines the drive and force of modern drum and bugle corps in combination with serious contemporary abstraction and post-modernism. He was the winner of the 2014-15 The Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble Composition Contest and premiered his “Uprising” at Harvard University’s Sanders Theater. Leonelli’s principle composition teachers were Marti Epstein and Jan Swafford, and he studied music theory with Curtis Hughes and piano with Carlos Vargas. At the Berklee College of Music, Timothy served as the Assistant Conductor and Principal Trombonist of the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra. His principal composition teachers were John Bavicchi, Andrew List, Yakov Gubanov, one of the last composition students of Dmitri Shostakovich, and his principal conducting teachers were Sean Newhouse and Francisco Noya and his principal trombone teacher was John Faieta. Leonelli was distinguished as the Richard Levy Scholarship Award Recipient from the Berklee Composition Faculty and was commissioned to write a piece at their annual Writing Division Awards Concert with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra. Leonelli is on the faculty of the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps as the Brass Caption Manager and has previously taught the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from 2014-2015 as and the Boston Crusaders from 2012-2014. In 2012, the Boston Crusaders were selected to perform at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. Involved with the Drum Corps International activity since 2005, Timothy was a member of the Blue Devils from 2007-2011 and has won three Drum Corps International World Champion titles in 2007, 2009, and 2010 and was the Individual and Ensemble Champion for Trombone in 2011. He was also selected as section leader in 2010 and 2011. Leonelli currently serves the Boston College Bands Program as the Marching Band Music Composer and Arranger, Pep Band Director, and Low Brass Coordinator and Instructor. In 2013, both the Boston Crusaders and the Boston College Marching Band were selected to perform at the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, DC. Originally from San Diego County, Leonelli now resides in Boston, MA where he serves on the staff of Boston College Bands Program and Abington Public Schools brass programs. Lauren Teel is the Director of Percussion at Mililani High School in Mililani, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. Lauren is the Percussion Caption Manager for the DCI World Class Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps, and serves on the PAS Marching committee. Prior to moving to Hawaii, Lauren taught several universities including the University of Alabama, University of North Alabama, University of Montevallo, and University of Alabama- Birmingham. She also had the pleasure to work with both the University of Alabama Million Dollar Band and the University of North Alabama Marching Pride. She served as the principle percussionist of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra for the 2018/2019 season. Lauren earned her Masters of Music in Percussion Performance at Indiana University and earned a B.M. in Percussion Performance from the University of North Texas. She has extensive DCI experience as a member of two top twelve drum corps, the 2009 and 2010 Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps, and the 2011 Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps, both drumlines under the instruction of Paul Rennick. As a performer, Lauren has had the opportunity to perform world wide, performing as far as Belgium to Chennai, India, where she performed for an audience of over 75,000 people with Oscar winning composer, A.R. Rahman. Lauren also appeared in the 2013 blockbuster, The Hunger Games; Catching Fire, as a timpanist. While living in Atlanta Lauren performed as a member of the NFL Atlanta Falcons Drum Line. In 2018, Lauren was invited to perform as part of the 2018 PASIC Focus Day events the solo marimba piece “Free Flight”, by composer and pianist Muriel Roth. Lauren proudly performs using Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets, Marimba One instruments, Zildjian Cymbals and Remo drum heads. Samantha Madayag Color Guard Caption Manager

Samantha Madayag was raised in Union City, CA, and fell in love with the marching arts at a young age. She began her competitive performance career as a member of the James Logan High School World Guard (Union City, CA) in 2008. Samantha marched until her senior year in 2010, during which she served as one of the color guard captains and won the WGI Scholastic World Championship. In 2011, she completed her winter guard performance career by joining the Santa Clara Vanguard Winter Guard (Santa Clara, CA), and won the WGI Independent World Championship.


Samantha started her drum corps performance career in 2010 with the Blue Devils A Corps (Concord, CA), and proceeded to march every year until her age-out in 2014. Within that time, she won three DCI World Championships, five George Zingali Best Color Guard Awards, and served as the Blue Devils Color Guard Captain in 2013 and 2014.


Samantha began teaching color guard as the movement and flag instructor at James Logan High School in 2011. In 2017, she was promoted to Color Guard Director, Choreographer, and Designer of the James Logan Open Guard. She continues to work as a technician for the James Logan World Guard.


Aside from her duties at James Logan, Samantha works full-time as an instructional assistant for Oakland Adult and Career Education in Oakland, CA. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Counseling.


Samantha is deeply honored to join the 2020 Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps as the Color Guard Caption Manager, and looks forward to an exciting season! Steven Strom Sound Caption Manager

Steven Strom is a percussionist and music education major currently attending the University of North Alabama. He was a member of the drumline at North East Mississippi Community College, and has held leadership positions in both the University of North Alabama Pride of Dixie Marching Band and the Memphis Grizzlies NBA drumline. He is a member of the UNA Percussion Group and the World Percussion Ensemble. More recently, he has turned his focus to electronics and audio engineering. Two seasons ago, he was the Audio Engineer and Sound Designer for the Pride of Dixie Marching Band. He will be returning this year for his third season on staff with the Troopers.
